Percy Thomas graduated from Fox Lane High School in 1982 and entered the workforce, gaining experience at various local establishments. His martial arts journey began in 1984 when he started training in Wing Chun Kung Fu under Sifu Tony Watts, becoming an instructor by 1989. In 1991, Percy moved to Rochester, NY, where he graduated from Monroe Community College in 1995 with an Associate’s degree in Commercial Illustration. During his time at M.C.C., he founded and served as president of the Budo Martial Arts Club and began studying Capoeira under Stephan Coram at Brockport University.
In 1996, Percy began training in Pekiti Tersia Kali under Kuya Doug Marcaida. After relocating back to Mount Kisco, NY, in 1997, he trained at the S.W.A.M. Martial Arts Academy, founded by Sijo Abdul Mutakabbir, where he achieved a fourth-degree black belt. From 1997 to 2007, he taught cardio-kickboxing at Club Fit in Briarcliff and Yorktown, as well as at Saw Mill Club and other gyms throughout Westchester, incorporating cardio-capoeira into his classes.
In 2006, Percy earned his ACE personal trainer certification and began working as a personal trainer at Lexington Avenue Gym, focusing on functional training, boxing, martial arts, and flexibility. He received an orange/blue belt in Capoeira under Mestre Ary “Aryana” Lima and resumed training with Doug Marcaida, currently instructing the Filipino martial art Marcaida Kali.
Since adopting a vegan lifestyle in 2015, Percy has become a certified instructor for the Rock Steady Boxing program in Mount Kisco, dedicated to supporting the Parkinson’s community through health and wellness initiatives. He is passionate about applying his mastery of martial arts, flexibility, and stretching to clients in Westchester and at Lexington Avenue Gym.
