How do boxers train? And how do they stay mentally and physically in shape? Obviously natural born athletes, have a special personality and talent that takes them to the next level. Not every athlete is a professional one, but they do share some of the same characteristics. Each sport has a specific set of skills that athletes have to develop and improve upon. Boxers are not different; they have to train in order to withstand the fighting matches and the hits, but how do boxers train? Let’s continue reading for more details.
The List
As we mentioned before, each sport has a specific set of skills that each athlete, need to have or develop in order to get good at it. For the most part, the list it is pretty much the same for all athletes. The list includes, cardio, endurance, agility and even a specific diet. For boxers in particular, the list includes:
- Mitt work and sparring
- Strength and conditioning
- Boxing drills
What Is A Boxing Training Camp?
Part of the boxing drills that we mentioned above, may include what it is known as a boxing camp. As you can assume, these camps are designed for each specific boxing division and age group. For those who do not know, there are 17 weight classes for men and women. As you can imagine, having these training camps, helps the boxers stay in shape before their fighting matches. Any drastic weight change, will automatically disqualify the participant for their particular division.
How Long Does Training Take?
Training will depend on your specific set of skills. If you are a natural athlete, with super good bones and metabolism; training will feel much different than for those who aren’t. Especially for boxing, being able to keep your weight it is a challenge. Diet and exercise, will be determined by your particular division.
